In this article, we take a closer look at our Sydney consultant, James Kilborn, and get to know more about his background and expertise.

Where are you from?

Originally from Melbourne, Australia, I spent 12 years of my childhood growing up across Europe in Poland, France & Germany. Having returned to Melbourne to complete high school and University, I moved to Sydney to commence my career, but I still very much feel international!

Why did you move into recruitment?

The key motivation for my move into recruitment was the people focused nature of the role. I was looking for something where I could work closely with people, build relationships and ultimately make a positive contribution.

Best piece of advice to give to a lawyer looking for a job?

If you have a long-term goal, be very deliberate and strategic with how you get there. As a traditional and conservative industry, the standards are relentless, and mistakes are not easily forgiven. Speak to a recruiter for advice before making your next move.

Favorite interview question to ask?

What do you enjoy the most about your work? (People become very real and animated when that have the chance to talk about their passions).

Biggest interview faux pas?

Discussing negative reasons for leaving a current job rather than promoting a move as an opportunity for growth and development.
