The Best Scenic Running Spots in Sydney

Sydney provides a spectacular setting for running and is home to some fantastic trails that stretch past bays, parks, ocean cliffs, city developments and famous landmarks.

Release some stress, get fit and take in some of Sydney’s most beautiful sites on these incredible running routes.

1. Barangaroo Reserve to Sydney Opera House

The west side of the CBD has been developed significantly in recent years, and it’s well worth exploring. Run the outer edge of the Barangaroo reserve and take in views of the harbour and the ultra-modern skyscrapers of the city, where Sonder HQ is located. Pass the cafes of Walsh Bay and head along Circular Quay towards the Sydney Opera House. Why not reward yourself with a cold drink in the famous Opera bar at the end of your run?

2. Parramatta Park to Olympic Park

Follow the Parramatta River south-east towards the Olympic Park and take in the views of Blaxland Riverside Park and Wentworth Common before arriving at the passage of some of Australia’s greatest international sporting triumphs, take a quick lap of Bicentennial Park and then take the scenic jog back.

3. Rose Bay to Watson Bay

At the northern end of Rose Bay is the Hermitage Foreshore Walk. It’s not the easiest of terrain to take on due to its combination of stairs and uneven rock platforms (though still runnable). The route comes with lots of hidden beaches and coastline views of Sydney CBD. Once you’ve completed the Foreshore Walk, sweep down into Vaucluse, where you can look at all those opulent houses before finishing up at Watson’s Bay.

4. Maroubra Beach to Malabar Beach

The Bondi to Coogee walk might be one of Sydney’s most famous trails but head slightly further south for a route that’s quieter but no less beautiful. From the southern end of Maroubra Beach there is several trails that take you to the edge of the headland at Boora Point where you can enjoy the views before heading down to Malabar Beach.

5. Harbour Bridge to Lavender Bay

Run across one of Sydney’s most famous landmarks whilst overlooking the harbour and the city. At the other side, make your way to Luna park and continue running along Lavender Bay. Get a selfie with the harbour bridge in the background and then continue through Wendy’s Secret Garden to return to the city via Lavender Street, Alfred Street and the bridge. A true Sydney-siders running route!
