Six Goal-Setting Tips

As we find ourselves in a new era, restricted by social distancing laws and navigated by sophisticated technology, it’s a good time to review your goals and create new ones tailored to a slightly different lifestyle to ensure you stay motivated in 2021.

According to Forbes:
‘’People who vividly describe their goals in a written form are 1.4 times more likely to accomplish their goals compared to those that don’t.

For help setting specific, achievable, measurable and motivational goals, follow these top tips…

1. Focus on Lifestyle

Don’t just focus on career goals and how you’re going to make the most out of your job. Focus on making steps that will improve your overall happiness and wellbeing. For instance, take up a new hobby, learn a new skill online, brush up on excel, write a blog or take up a new exercise class. Whatever it is, try to think of at least two lifestyle improvements. You won’t regret it.

2. Align Goals with YOUR Principles

According to the Entrepreneur, ‘If your career goals aren’t supporting your life goals and your values, you are bound to have a miserable existence.’ So, make sure you are living to your values and enjoy the job role you are in at least 70% of the time. If you are feeling frustrated or unmotivated, it may be time for a change.

3. Set Goals that You can Control

Don’t depend on other people to achieve your goals. You are more likely to succeed if you have control over your objectives. Ask friends, family and work colleagues for their support but your own success should be in your hands.

4. Think BIG

If you don’t plan big, then you won’t achieve big. Don’t be scared to push yourself and set sights high. It may take some time and hard work to get there but everything is acheivable if you put your mind to it. Set daily and weekly objectives and short term monthly goals and use them as stepping stones to achieve your long-term goals, this could be anything from relocating to a new city, buying a house or making a big career move.

5. Manage Risks

You are likely to run into some hurdles along the way, but this is inevitable. Plan and consider potential new challenges we may face with regards to Covid-19 and any other risks associated with the goals you have set, this way you can be prepared and have a plan B in place.

6.Focus on Emerging Trends

Look at ways in which emerging trends are shaping your industry. In 2020 we have seen just how powerful technology is and how it can help us to streamline processes and work remotely from all corners of the globe. Put some time aside to research different areas of eDiscovery, NewLaw and maybe even Artificial Intelligence. This will place you in a stronger position and help you work more efficiently. Even if it’s something as simple as planning how to conduct the most productive zoom meeting with your team.

With challenge comes opportunity. Plan ahead, stay organised and motivated and you will come out stronger, better and more resilient.

”If you want to be happy, set a goal that commands your thoughts, liberates your energy and inspires your hopes.”
