Making Ourselves a Priority

Do you ever stop to consider how to take care of yourself? So many of us struggle with the idea of putting ourselves first, always carrying around the idea that we must ignore our own needs and put others first.

It’s imperative we take time out for our own wellbeing. Here are some ideas on how to really take care of yourself this year:

1\. Make yourself a priority
Every time we fly we hear the safety briefing about fitting your own oxygen mask first before helping others. There’s a reason for that! Living your life for you will let you be able to better support those around you. Make time for yourself, if you only have 5 minutes, take it, schedule it into your day if you have to but just don’t wait for it to come to you.

2. Figure out what works for you

A nice warm bath? A good book? Exercise? Find something that helps to clear your mind and restore your energy as long as it helps you to connect with yourself then keep doing it. It doesn’t have to be meditation or yoga, go for a walk outside or stare at a wall if that’s your style – whatever it is, just do you!

3. Be selfish, it’s OK

Taking care of yourself will make your foundation stronger. You can keep pushing yourself but there comes a time where you have to put yourself first. Spending time away from your responsibilities is not a bad thing, in fact being selfish is necessary in order to be the best you that you can be.

4. Get enough sleep

It’s so important for your health and wellbeing. When life gets busy it’s almost impulse to go to bed late and get up early in order to get everything done. The truth is if you aren’t getting enough sleep you are putting yourself at risk of getting sick. A good amount of sleep help your brain and body to function better. Make it part of your nighttime routine to completely disconnect from the idea of work – perhaps with a nighttime meditation, good book, stretch… whatever it takes, put your sleep first and watch as your productivity skyrockets!

5. Ask for help

Don’t be afraid to ask for help. By trying to handle things on your own you cause yourself internal stress. Speak up and ask your family or work colleagues for help. A healthy and less stressed you is better for everyone.

6. Realise your worth

The only way to make yourself a priority is to realise your worth. You are so important and you can do great things but it all has to start with you making yourself a priority. When you start taking care of yourself you start feeling better and you start to attract better. It all starts with you.

We hope the above information reinforced the importance of making yourself a priority. We love hearing from you, if you have more tips or tricks to add, send us an email at info@sonderconsultants.com!

Until next time,
Team Sonder.
